What you need to know about eSIM

  • This technology uses an already embedded chip in the device, e.g., a smartphone or watch, replacing the traditional SIM card. In addition to the improved user experience, eSIM provides an additional layer of security and reliability; great things are yet to be expected from it.
  • eSIM has the same function as a classic SIM card - the difference is how to activate it. You need to load the Telekom mobile network eSIM profile on a device that supports eSIM technology. eSIM downloads your profile, which contains the data by which we recognize you as our user.
  • To download the eSIM profile, you scan the activation QR code that you received from us with your device. You can find an option to download an eSIM profile in your device settings. Remember that the device (often a phone) from which you will scan the QR activation code must be connected to the Internet via a WiFi network.
  • The procedure for downloading an eSIM profile may differ slightly depending on the manufacturer and model of the device. Therefore, if necessary, check the user manual of your device. Below are instructions for devices from our offer, which we have prepared for you.
  • Multiple eSIM profiles can be loaded on the device simultaneously, but only one can be active at the moment (registered on the Telekom mobile network).

Here are a few simple steps to an eSIM profile...

  • Apply for an eSIM profile
    You can do everything online. You will receive a QR code for activation when you order an eSIM and choose a tariff plan.
    Or call the Contact Center at 1500 or visit our office - after signing the postpaid contract or prepaid registration, you will receive a QR activation code.
     
  • Connect the eSIM profile and device
    Connect the device to any available WiFi network;
    Scan the activation QR code you received via email, and you also have it on the package / postpaid contract.
    Alternatively, find information about eSIM activation in your device's user guide.
     
  • Activate the eSIM profile on the device
    Your eSIM profile will be automatically installed on your device and registered on the Telekom mobile network.

How to activate the eSIM profile on the phone

 You activate your eSIM after signing a postpaid contract or prepaid registration.

  • Check if your phone is running the latest version of the operating system. If not, update your operating system.
  • Connect your mobile phone to any available WiFi network. The process of downloading the eSIM profile is encrypted and protected by security certificates so that it can be completed without fear, even over a public WiFi network.
  • Scan the activation QR code you received by email in the case of an online order or the code from the package or postpaid contract, and your eSIM profile will be automatically installed on your device and registered on the Telekom mobile network.

 

The iPhone has some specifics:

  • Update iOS to version 12.1 or later
  • Scan the QR code you received earlier:
    1. Open Settings > Mobile data
    2. Tap "Add Data Plan"
    3. Use your iPhone to scan the QR code

Note: if you are replacing the SIM card with an eSIM profile, remove the SIM card from the iPhone before scanning the QR code.

After activating the eSIM profile for the selected mobile number, you can no longer use the old SIM card.
